The short answer – Yes, it is going to hurt. It’s a needle, not a feather. You’re already in pain, so I’m sure you can endure a few brief moments of additional pain for potential long-term pain relief.
I will do everything humanly possible to minimize your pain during the procedure. I’ll use the smallest gauge needle, and I will numb you up with as much lidocaine as I can safely administer. I will be in constant communication with you during your procedure, so you can tell me if you need more lidocaine. Also, if at any time the pain is too much for you to handle, I’ll discontinue the procedure. We can pull the plug at any time; no harm, no foul.
In most cases, the anxiety that you feel prior to the injection is more uncomfortable than the actual injection itself.
